In presenting the content contained in the first element of the Third Wave Strategy framework this course explores the concepts and value of each of the notions of Purpose, Mission, Vision, Long Term Strategy, and it’s derivative; a Strategic Architecture. Discussions identifies the means to differentiate between strategy practices of relevance to industry followers versus those of industry leaders and potentially, inventors of new industries altogether. Accordingly, ways to treat long term strategy will be explored, as a microsystem upon which traditional adaptive approaches to competitive behaviour can be reconciled with inventive strategies of deliberate disruption. Ways to enhance those organisations capacity to lead disruption via the development of an integrated value system are also examined.
